The 377 square mile Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was established
in 1916 and has been honored as a World Heritage Site since 1987.
One of the world’s natural wonders, Hawaii Volcanoes National
Park provides visitors unparalleled opportunities to view geologic
evidence of previous volcanic eruptions, as well as, experience first
hand the ongoing eruption of the Park’s Pu’u O ’o.
The parks rainforest, dry tropical forest and desert climates are
all easily accessible via a network of well maintained trails that
range from handicapped accessible, to experts only backpacking. The
Park is a great place to enjoy the Big Islands natural wonders while
learning about the volcanic origins of Hawaii and the planet Earth.
