Pele's Hair and Pele's Tears

During periods of fountaining eruptions lava thrust into the air cools quickly forming smooth black droplets which are known as Pele's tears or glasslike strands that are known as Pele's hair. When touring the park these various forms of lava can be observed in many locations. Desolation trail is especially good for spotting Pele's tears and Pele's hair.
