The Hilina Pali Trail descends 2.200 feet (670 m) down the face of Hilina Pali and it reaches a junction with the Ka’aha Trail. From the conjunction, the Ka’aha Trail goes south 1.6 miles to the Ka’aha Shelter on the coast and to a small black sand beach. Overnight hikers must register at the visitor center before proceeding this back-country area.
