The Naulu trailhead begins at Kealakomo where there was once a populous village. The scenery consists of a lava landscape. After the first mile you will see the summit of Mauna Ulu. Near the end of the trail you reach the remains of the old Chain of Craters Road that is entirely covered by lava. The trail is coected with the Kalapana Trail and eventually joins the Napau Trail.
