The Crater Rim trail circles the Kilauea Caldera. The trail head
starts at Volcano House, passes steaming vents, Thomas A. Jagger
museum, dips south along the road and then to the southwest rift
of Kilauea covered by 1971, 1974 and before 1924 lava flows. Take
the short one-quarter mile Halemaumau Trail to view the steaming
“fire pit” and feel the magic of the earth creation.
