Pahoa Town’s historic buildings and boardwalks contribute
to a frontier atmosphere that is reflective of the town’s history
and reputation as a counterculture community and a social center
of the islands marijuana growing area. The town’s Main Street
is lined with boutiques and unique shops which offer a broad range
of merchandise including the works of local artisans. Pahoa Town
also features the historic Akebono Theater (the islands first), a
range of hole in the wall restaurants, a health food market and a
cornucopia of interesting local characters. Turn onto Highway 132
at its junction with Highway 11 in Kea'au, and continue on Highway
132 until you see the Pahoa Town sign.
