Wai'opae Ponds, located at the end of Kapaho Kai road are a network
of tidal pools formed in cooling lava that provide an excellent protected
setting to view colorful coral and reef fishes as well as great sunbathing
on the rocks surrounding the ponds. Some pools close to the shore
are geothermal heated offering a relaxing soak for travel weary bones,
while the pools best for viewing coral and fish are the larger pools
closer to the ocean. When viewing coral formations be careful not
to step on the coral as this kills the living organism that forms
the coral reef and don't feed the fish as this disrupts the natural
balance in the ponds. Turn off the Red Road (Hwy 137) on to Kapoho
Kai road and keep to the right until reaching the "T" at
that beach front Road and then turn left to reach the ponds.
