Spirit Art Studio is located in Pahoa, Hawaii, on the Big Island of Hawaii. Our studio is comprised of the paintings by David Gallegos and sculpture by Crystal Lockwood. David creates unique wood burned oil paintings on rare Hawaiian woods, mainly Koa and Mango. His depictions of Hawaiian culture and life are reminiscent of “old Hawaii” and have a distinctive vintage feel. The paintings are partly translucent, so that the grains of the wood shows through, giving each piece a truly spiritual quality. Crystal creates one-of-a-kind wood sculptures that evoke the legends and gods and goddess of Hawaii. Crystal utilizes woods from Hawaii, Oregon, and California. Crystal achieves a striking metamorphosis of nature into man, letting the “spirit” of the wood emerge to tell the story.
