Hapuna State Recreation Area
|
Hapuna's long beautiful crescent of fine white sand and striking
crystal clear turquoise and deep blue waters stand out in striking
contrast to the surrounding dry coastal forests and black lava cliffs
creating a picture of intoxicating beauty. Hapuna's shore break is
excellent for boogie boarding and body surfing for experts during
high surf periods in the winter. During relatively calm winter periods
and typically very calm summers the body surfing and boogie boarding
can be excellent for beginners as well. During the summer the beach
also offers excellent swimming and snorkeling. As dangerous conditions
can exist at any time be sure to check with the lifeguards that are
stationed seven days a week year round as to the day’s conditions.
Along the beach is a large pavilion and several smaller pavilion's
that provide much-needed respite from the scorching South Kohala
sun and are perfect for beachside picnics and sunset barbecues. Hapuna
State recreation area is located off Hwy 19 near the 69 mile marker.
